Nieprzypadkowo wybrali tytuł swej debiutanckiej płyty: „The Back Room” zwiastuje tajemnicę, intymny spektakl w półmroku. Muzycy nagrali album dla małej niezależnej wytwórni Kitchenware Records (działający od lat wydawca min. Prefab Sprout i Fatima Mansion) , jednak sukces pierwszych singli sprawił, że o ich dystrybucję zabiegali wszyscy rynkowi potentaci. PIAS wydawał im się najbardziej wiarygodny. Producentem albumu był Jim Biss (UNKLE, Ladytron, Kasabian).
